Building permit values reached just $25.1 million for the month. That’s down from the $45.3 million recorded in December 2020 and the $37.8 million recorded in January 2020.

A funding boost of $34.5 million from the federal government should help the soon-to-be-constructed Ottawa Public Library–Library and Archives Canada joint facility reach net-zero carbon.

The province called on Ottawa to provide the funding on Tuesday, over a year after it cancelled the project because its costs had escalated to $5.5 billion.

Statistics Canada reports that the combined operating incomes of architects and landscape architects rose by 1.9 percent to $5.3 billion in 2019.

The total of $11.1 billion is the highest ever recorded in the residential sector, and more than made up for yet another month of flat growth in non-residential activity.
