The provincial allocation is open to those municipalities with populations of less than 100,000 and the money will be shared among 424 communities. The overall funding allocation for 2021 is identical to the funding issued in 2020.

Plans by Canadian National Railway to develop 400 acres of land in Milton into a new truck-train logistics hub have been approved by the federal government—with conditions. Halton Region mayors say not enough is being done to address residents’ concerns.

The money will be earmarked for a dozen public-transit projects in the city, including construction of a dedicated bus rapid transit corridor along Lakeshore Road, as well as significant upgrades to the city’s MiWay bus fleet.

Three of the appointees represent British Columbia, Prince Edward Island and the Yukon, while the fourth will serve as a governor representing employers. They have been appointed to four-year terms.
