A report issued by the Centre for Urban Research and Land Development at Ryerson University shows Toronto—and the GTA—were respectively the fastest growing city and metro area in North America in 2019.

Phase one of the city’s Modular Housing Initiative will see 100 affordable housing units ready for occupancy this fall. Phase two calls for another 150 to be completed next spring.

The COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t yet appear to have affected the completion date of the massive infrastructure project. Construction on both sides of the border was deemed an essential service when the pandemic broke.

The decision was a logistical move—unrelated to performance. It is uncertain to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the project costs and schedule.

If constructed, the facility would be three times the size of a distribution centre built for Amazon east of the city in 2019.
