Lakeview Village developers plan to include Canada’s largest technology hub
The developers behind a plan to transform a Mississauga brownfield site into a mixed-use waterfront community announced recently that the project will also feature Canada’s largest hub for technology, innovation and research.
Lakeview Community Partners Limited (LCPL), which includes TACC Construction Limited, Greenpark Group, CCI Development Group, Branthaven and Argo Development Corporation, say that one of the cornerstones of their 177-acre Lakeview Village project will be an Innovation District, which aims to become a technology hot spot.
Working in LCPL’s favour is the site’s location along the Toronto–Waterloo Innovation Corridor, and its proximity to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
Integrated into the broader Lakeview Village community, the 1.9-million square foot Innovation District would become an ecosystem for collaboration, research and innovation among top technology companies.
The Innovation District’s design includes plans for open-concept co-working spaces, flexible office use and event spaces available to innovators to work together and connect with investors, experts and potential partners from around the world.
The broader plan for Lakeview Village sees the land that was once occupied by the Four Sisters coal plant transformed into a living, breathing green space with the opportunity for use and development of sustainable technology solutions focused on energy, waste and water industries.
The development also aims to bring more than 8,000 units of diverse housing, and create as many as 9,000 long-term jobs in partnership with the City of Mississauga’s Economic Development Office.
“We believe that an investment in infrastructure is an investment in talent, industry and business,” said Brian Sutherland, Vice-President of Development, Argo Development Corporation. “With flexible office space, co-working space, and state-of-the-art facilities, the Innovation District is not only integral to our vision for the future of the community, but a critically important element that supports the growing City of Mississauga, the broader region and Canada at large.”
