IO, Ottawa Hospital issue RFP for Civic Campus project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and The Ottawa Hospital have issued a request for proposals (RFP) for teams to design and develop the multi-billion-dollar Civic Campus Redevelopment Project.
Once complete, the redeveloped and relocated facility will be the major referral centre for Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Nunavut, and the Eastern Ontario Trauma Centre. As one of Canada’s largest acute care learning hospitals, the Civic Campus will provide a full range of specialized services and education for those with the most complex injuries and illness.
The new building will feature more than 640 inpatient beds, including nearly 100 critical care beds, and a one-patient, one bedroom, one-bathroom model for enhanced infection prevention and control.
The hospital will be designed and built with an emphasis on well-being for patients, visitors, staff members and the community at large. The design will use a hybrid of sustainability models including the LEED rating system, the National Capital Commission’s Sustainable Development Strategies, the One Planet Living framework, and the WELL Building Standard.
The transit-oriented site will be accessible and pedestrian and cyclist safe.
The successful RFP bidder will work in collaboration with IO, The Ottawa Hospital and the Ministry of Health under a development phase agreement to define and refine project requirements, as well as design, pricing and risk parameters.
The RFP is expected to close in the fall of 2023, and is the first step in IO’s new progressive procurement approach.
