The two plants are expected to create 1,000 jobs on top of retaining the existing 4,200 jobs at the assembly plant.

The plan aims to spur construction of 250,000 new homes across the country by identifying publicly owned sites that are under-used and which can be converted to residential use.

The funding was announced in last month’s provincial budget, and is part of a program to offset the impacts of rising construction costs and higher interest rates.

The building was recognized for minimizing greenhouse gas emissions from building materials and operations.
