Despite housing starts in Canada's six largest cities hovering at near all-time highs last year, experts warn those levels are still not enough to address the country's housing shortage in the years to come.

The province announced Thursday that it will take over ownership of Highway 174, support the repairs of major connecting roads and open a new police station downtown.

Activity in the residential sector, which slowed in 2023 and 2024, is projected to rebound in 2025. The non-residential sector, on the other hand, is stacked with projects through the 2020s.

Housing issues are forcing businesses to boost pay to better attract talent and budget for higher labour costs, agreed 87 percent of respondents.
