The project will connect Highway 11 in the south with Highway 584 in the north and be able to handle sustained truck traffic from mining activities. 

The prime minister vowed that the "transformative" projects will align both with the interests of Indigenous people and with Canada's climate goals.

Construction work started on the project in May 2022 and was led by EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare.
