Six projects created in part by the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario will share in $4 million in funding from the province’s Skills Development Fund.

Constructing new low-carbon “green” buildings is not the fastest path to mitigating climate change. Retrofits drastically reduce energy use and waste.

The funding will be used to train as many as 150 people in trades such as construction craft workers, heavy equipment operators, truck drivers, crane operators, welders and millwrights. The workers will be given opportunities to help build and run the Greenstone Gold Mine.

The company continues to augment its network across Ontario as it prepares to face regulators in the United States over its proposed $33-billion merger with Kansas City Southern.

The new detachment is part of the province’s OPP Modernization – Phase 2 project, which sees the replacement of 10 aging police facilities under a P3 model.
