A significant package of infrastructure works announced in the province’s 2021 budget will increase capacity on GO Train line along the Guelph subdivision, and allow more trains to travel both ways between Kitchener and Toronto.

Rural parts of Ontario could benefit from a provincial pledge to spend an additional $2.8 billion over five years for improved cellular phone service and broadband internet in underserved areas.

The additional spending comes from the federal gas tax fund, and would double the federal government’s regular funding for municipalities.

Three major engineering companies— Architecture49, HOK and WSP—will work together to modernize and design new science facilities for the federal government in cities across Ontario over the next five years.

The budget issued by the Progressive Conservative government on Wednesday projects a deficit of $33.1 billion for the year, with the province saying it will take until 2029 to balance the books.
