The $9.9 billion worth of permits issued in the month was a jump of more than 8 percent from December, and surpasses the previous record of $9.6 billion set in April 2019.

After a drop of more than 9 percent created by the COVID-19 pandemic, spending on non-residential capital and repair expenditures is expected to grow by 7 percent to $266.2 billion in 2021.

But values are still lower than in 2020 due to a significant drop in government and institutional construction, year over year.

The Ottawa-based delivery service saw revenue growth of more than 650 percent created by the pandemic. It forecasts even more growth—and further expansion—in 2021.

The Ontario government announced the contract award—and a further contribution of $53 million to the project—on February 26. Work on site begins this week and is expected to carry through 2023.
