Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended the groundbreaking of IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold Mine project in Gogama on September 11. The project will create 1,000 trades jobs during construction, and 450 jobs when operational.

The funding will be directed toward projects such as HVAC systems replacements and roof repairs. The money will be shared among 129 hospitals across the province, and includes $50 million for COVID-related projects.

The alliance provided a brief to Premier Doug Ford and several MPPs outlining six steps to reform the province’s locate system, which it says is flawed and lags consistently behind schedule.

Work on the century-old Riverside Dam was suspended in May when the COVID pandemic forced council to delay or cancel several infrastructure projects. It will resume next year—but on a longer timeline and likely at a greater cost than originally planned.

The rate of starts recorded in August is the highest the country has seen since September 2007. But with so much of the activity focused in the multi-family sector, experts wonder if the recovery may be flawed.
