The project is expected to be one of the largest nickel sulfide operations in the world, and will help deliver nickel and cobalt for use in electric vehicles. Stantec will provide environmental consulting services.

Prepared in response to suggestions by the federal environment minister that his government should stop investing in road infrastructure, the poll finds a majority of respondents support new construction.

The facility will target "pro customers" — homebuilders, contractors, remodellers and others who often work on bigger, more complex projects and need large quantities of materials.

The Ontario government is providing $1.88 million to Peterborough, $2.3 million to St. Catharines, and $8.4 million to Milton for progress against their 2023 housing targets.
