Four construction site fatalities in less than a week have caused one of the industry’s leading associations to encourage contractors, management teams and workers to reconsider their commitments to safety.

The province announced on December 16 that it will allocate an additional $695 million to local governments as part of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement. A further $1.3 billion for municipal transit systems is expected to be announced next month.

The money will be spent at two plants in the Greater Toronto Area and one in Montreal.

Construction of one project in Grey County is underway; funding for six others in Simcoe Country has been announced.

Construction will begin in January and will be led by EllisDon Corporation and Fortis Construction Group, which are also working on the university’s Lancer Centre.
