Province boosts pre-apprenticeship training program spending
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton announced the province will boost spending on the Pre-Apprenticeship Training program by $2.5 million on November 8.
Building permit values drop in September
Statistics Canada released its monthly report on the value of building permits issued across the country on Friday. The agency reports that Canadian municipalities issued $8.3 billion worth of permits in September, a drop of 6.5 percent compared to August. The largest declines were reported in the residential sector.
Near-term GTA growth to moderate: Conference Board
According to the Conference Board of Canada, economic growth in the Greater Toronto Area is expected to moderate in 2019 and 2020.
Construction shed 21,000 jobs in October
Statistics Canada released the findings of its monthly Labour Force Survey last week. The report shows that national employment figures held steady in October after two consecutive months of growth.
Substantial performance - what you need to know
Under the Ontario Construction Lien Act, a contract is considered substantially performed when the improvement, or a substantial part thereof, is ready for use, or is being used for the intended purposes, and when the improvement is capable of completion or, where there is a known defect, correction can be completed for less than the threshold monetary amount.
