Bracebridge bridge replacement delayed by COVID
Replacement of the Black Bridge over the Muskoka River in Bracebridge has been delayed due to supply chain issues created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is now scheduled for completion in the spring.
National employment gains slow, while provincial trends continue to vary
Statistics Canada’s latest Labour Force Survey (LFS), conducted during the week of November 8th to 14th, shows a gain of 0.3% in industry employment for the month. Employment rose by 4,300 workers from 1,438,000 in October to 1,442,000 in November.
Province enacts second shutdown
The shutdown will close non-essential businesses for 14 days in the north and 28 days in southern regions. Unlike the spring shutdown, this closure will not impact construction.
Ontario government to impose province-wide lockdown, media reports say
Media reports say the Ontario government is poised to impose a province−wide lockdown starting Christmas Eve in an effort to combat a surge in COVID−19 cases.
More cash for municipalities
The province announced on December 16 that it will allocate an additional $695 million to local governments as part of the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement. A further $1.3 billion for municipal transit systems is expected to be announced next month.
