Construction begins on Stage 2 west tunnel in Ottawa
At three kilometres, the tunnel is the larger of two along the 15-kilometre extension. It will be built using a cut-and-cover method, and is a key component of the extension.

The addition will bring the number of inspectors on the ground to more than 500—at a cost of $11.6 million. Recruitment begins early next month.
