Graham completes Canada Royal Milk facility
Graham Group announced on December 2 that it has completed construction of the Canada Royal Milk facility—Canada’s first and only wet infant formula facility, and North America’s only goat milk infant formula facility.
Construction of the $200-plus million facility began in January 2018, and the project was completed on time and on budget. Situated on 40 acres of land, the plant consists of approximately 300,000 square feet and is made up of seven main components: the truck receiving area, pre-treatment, dry blending, packing, warehouse, utility and office areas. The building includes two separate production lines; one for cow dairy and one for goat dairy.
One of the highlights of the project was the completion of the largest continuous concrete pour in the history of not only the company, but also the city of Kingston. Crews placed 4,289m3 of concrete over 20 hours using four different concrete plants. This pour was planned months in advance and included the commitment of all project stakeholders to complete the base slab installation for the future warehouse area of the facility.
The building is owned by Chinese dairy-products manufacturer Feihe International, and will create 225 new jobs in Kingston. At the time of its announcement, the project represented the largest Chinese investment in Canadian history.
