Employment dropped by 22,600 jobs in October: report
In the latest edition of its National Employment Report, ADP Canada says employment in Canada dropped by 22,600 jobs in October.
Those industry accounting for the greatest job losses for the month included trade/transportation and utilities (-7,000), educational services (-5,800), and natural resources and mining (-3,500). Construction lost 400 jobs during the month.
The report is a monthly measure of the change in total Canada nonfarm payroll employment derived from actual, anonymous payroll data of client companies served by ADP Canada. It measures more than two million workers in Canada.
“The labour market paused in October and most job sectors posted declines,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “However, leisure and hospitality experienced a gain likely due to the seasonality nature of the industry.”
Highlights of the October report include:
