RFP issued for Brampton courthouse/Toronto bail centre project
Two consortia have been invited to respond to a request for proposals to design, build and finance renovations to the Toronto Region bail centre and an addition to the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton.
One of the consortia is led by Pomerleau Inc, and includes designers NORR Architects & Engineers Ltd. and Smith & Andersen Consulting Engineering, as well as civil consultant A.M. Candaras Associates Inc. and mechanical and electrical subcontractor Plan Group Inc.
The other consortium is Brampton Courthouse Constructors. The team is being led by developers Buttcon Ltd., as well as designers +VG Architects and MTE Consultants Inc, and mechanical and electrical subcontractors Mattina Mechanical Ltd. and D.D. Mac Electric.
The RFP is being issued by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Attorney General. The groups intend to announce a successful bidder for the project in the spring.
Work on the Brampton Courthouse addition was approved in 2016–17 to proceed over two phases. The first, which is currently under construction, will see the construction of a six-floor addition, and fit-out of the basement and floors 1 and 2. The second, which is being awarded under the new RFP, involves the fit-out of the remaining shelled floors of the addition, as well as the partial renovation of the existing courthouse and adjacent land registry building. The total area of the second phase of work spans approximately 130,000 square feet.
The courthouse is the busiest in the province.
The Toronto Region bail centre project involves the renovation/modification of the existing, leased courthouse building at 2201 Finch Avenue West to accommodate all adult bail operations. The new facility will be equipped with the technology required to deliver modern, accessible justice services and interconnectivity with the new Toronto courthouse.
Once completed, the courthouse will operate as a functional regional bail centre and will be equipped with the technology required to deliver modern, accessible justice services and interconnectivity with the new Toronto courthouse. The total area under scope in this project is 30,400 square feet.
