RFQ issued for West Lincoln Memorial Hospital
Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences announced on November 27 that they have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for teams to design, build and finance the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH) redevelopment project.
Located in Grimsby, the WLMH provides inpatient services and outpatient services, including emergency services, complex and palliative care, surgery and a maternal and newborn program. As a site of Hamilton Health Sciences, WLMH also serves as a point of access to one of the largest health systems in Canada for patients requiring more specialized care.
The redevelopment of the hospital will involve the construction of a new, larger hospital on the property behind the existing facility. Project specifications include new acute inpatient beds, a 24-hour emergency department, maternal and newborn services, increased outpatient care space, and advanced diagnostics including X-ray, mammography, echocardiography and ultrasound, and CT scanner.
In July, a joint venture of B+H Architects/mcCallumSather was selected as the planning, design and conformance (PDC) team. The architects will prepare project documents, monitor construction progress and provide coordination and oversight during commissioning, completion, and transition to the new hospital.
The next major step in the project’s procurement will see those teams shortlisted through the RFQ process invited to respond to a request for proposals. That document is expected to be issued in mid-2021.
According to Infrastructure Ontario’s September P3 Market Update, financial close for the project is expected to be completed in 2022. The project budget is estimated to be between $200 million and $499 million.
