Windsor permit values retreat in November
Construction activity in Windsor took a step backwards in November.
The City of Windsor issued $23.1 million worth of permits for the month. That total is a drop of about $3 million from October’s total, and about a third of the total value of permits recorded in November 19.
Bolstering November’s total was $15.2 million worth of residential permits. That figure was about the same as those issued in November 2019. The value of commercial permits was about the same year over year at $4.1 million in 2020 and $4.2 million in 2019, while the value of industrial permits jumped significantly from about $60,000 last November to $3.4 million this year.
Pulling down the November 2020 total compared to last year was a huge drop in the value of government and institutional permits. Work there fell from $46.4 million in November 2019 to $388,500 this year.
The largest-value permit issued for the month was for $3.4 million. That work sees the addition of electrical rooms with upgrades at the Windsor Salt Mine on Morton Drive.
A pair of permits at $1.275 million each were also issued for construction of a 5,100-square foot medical office building at 525 and 535 Cabana Road East.
A third permit, worth $785,000, was issued for alterations to the Windsor Pump Company building on 3057 Marentette Avenue. The building will be converted into a new business office.
After briefly surpassing 2019’s year-to-date permit values in October, total construction values for 2020 slipped in November. To date this year, the city has issued just shy of $348 million worth of permits. For the same period last year, it had issued just over $390 million.
