Construction underway on seniors’ facility in London
Seniors’ home developer and operator Revera Inc. announced that construction is now underway on a new 128-bed long-term care home on January 22.
Located at 3400 Morgan Avenue in London, the new Elmwood Place Long Term Care home will replace a nearby existing facility with the same name. The project is the owner’s first to break ground in Ontario, and the building is scheduled for occupancy next year.
“Revera is proud to be working alongside the Ministry of Long-Term Care in redeveloping Elmwood Place, and all of our 32 older long-term care homes, to help meet the increasingly complex needs of current and future generations of seniors,” said Revera president and CEO Thomas Wellner. “We’re delighted to be building a bright, spacious, modernized environment for Elmwood Place, where there is such a great spirit of community and a long track record of care and service to seniors.”
The Ministry of Long-Term Care granted Revera an extra 50 bed licences for the new location. The facility will therefore be able to accommodate 128 residents, 60 percent of whom will occupy private rooms. The building is being built to the latest design standards, with more natural light, wider hallways, better airflow and temperature control, and more space for amenities. The construction work will create approximately 200 jobs, and once the home is operational, it is expected to employ more than 130 people—including current staff and new hires.
“I want to thank Revera for their continued partnership with our government as we work together towards our shared goal of increasing capacity and ensuring high- quality care for all residents,” said Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care. “The new and expanded Elmwood Place will help to ease pressure on hospitals and will become a vibrant and integral part of the London community."
