SOY apprentices looking for work
Support Ontario Youth, a pilot project that aims to promote employer participation in the apprenticeship process, released a list of mechanical and electrical-sector apprentices that are looking for work across the province.
The list includes:
- Brampton – two 309A candidates: one entry level and one first year
- Etobicoke – one 309A candidate: entry level
- Mississauga – one 309A candidate: entry level
- Milton – one 306A candidate: entry level
- Kitchener or Hamilton – one 309A candidate: fourth year and one 306A candidate: second year
- Kitchener–Waterloo – one 309A apprentice: first year
- Cambridge – two 309A candidates: both entry level
- Woodstock – one 306A candidate: entry level
- Ingersoll – two 309A candidates: one entry level and one first year
- London – one 309A candidate: first year
- Windsor – one 309A candidate: entry level
In addition, Support Ontario Youth is actively recruiting apprentices for employers across the province, including in:
- Chatham and Leamington (second to fifth-year electrician apprentices)
- Tecumseh (Windsor area) (second to third-year electrical apprentice)
- Southwestern Ontario, including Kitchener, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Brampton, etc. (third or fourth-year plumber apprentices)
- Peterborough and Kitchener (fourth or fifth-year plumber apprentice)
- Waterloo (second to fourth-year electrical apprentice)
- Ottawa (second to fourth-year electrical apprentice)
Founded in 2016, Support Ontario Youth is a charitable organization created with the support of the Ontario Electrical League and the Ontario Mechanical League. Its mandate is to reduce barriers to employer participation in the electrical and mechanical trades. It aims to reduce administrative burdens, improve the training experience, and reduce other barriers to poaching.
In the last year, the group has helped register more than 100 new apprentices, and onboard 90 employers.
