Nexii to open three manufacturing plants in 2021
Nexii Building Products, a Vancouver-based green construction-technology company, recently announced plans to develop three new manufacturing plants.
The company, which manufactures composite materials used in structural wall panels, says it is rapidly accelerating the roll-out of its new green construction technologies so it can meet escalating demand. The three new plants will be built in Ontario, Alberta and Pennsylvania under agreements with manufacturers in each region. The investments in the facilities are expected to cost $75 million.
“For North America to rebuild sustainably and achieve a green economic recovery, every industry needs to innovate and invest in new technologies,’ said Nexii Building Solutions CEO Stephen Sidwell. “Buildings and construction together is the top contributor to global climate pollution, and Nexii has the potential to curb the environmental impacts created by our buildings. Our goal is to aggressively scale Nexii, so that we can live up to our company mission to build a vibrant future for people and the planet.”
Currently, Nexii has one fully operational plant in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. A second production facility in Squamish, B.C. is under construction. Those two plants are corporately owned. The three new facilities will be run by independent manufacturers through partnership agreements.
In Ontario, Nexii plans to spend $30 million to develop a production facility in conjunction with Symphony Advanced Building Technologies Inc. in the Greater Toronto Area. The facility will manufacture green building and retrofit products using Nexii’s breakthrough process and proprietary material, Nexiite, and create more than 175 full-time jobs.
Development of the plant will begin in the fourth quarter of the year, and is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2021. The plant is expected to produce more than 8 million square feet of building panels every year.
Nexii’s Alberta plant is being developed in conjunction with Newvi Building Solutions at an investment of $15 million. The plant will create more than 100 jobs, and produce over 4 million square feet of building panels every year. It is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2021.
Finally, the company plans to spend $30 million to develop a manufacturing plant in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. It will work with John Wolfington to serve the Northeast US markets, including New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC. That plant will also become operational in early 2021.
The news of the plant investments comes shortly after the company made several high-profile additions to its board of directors and advisory board.
In June, Nexii named Michael S. Burke, chairman and CEO of AECOM, and executives Ram Charan and Dennis Carey to its board of directors. Uber chair and Apple Inc. board member Dr. Ronald Sugar joined its advisory board.
