Bird Construction to build Mississauga rental tower
Bird Construction announced on May 20 that it has been awarded a contract worth $107 million to transform a Mississauga parking lot into 35-storey residential rental building.
Owned by GWL Realty Advisors (GWLRA), the project at 185 Enfield Place involves the construction of 366 rental suites—in a variety of layouts and floor plans ranging in size from three bedrooms to one bedroom. Forty percent of the project’s apartments will have floor plans of at least 700 square feet with a view to accommodating families. The remainder will target couples and singles.
The tower itself will span approximately 26,000 square metres of gross floor area. It includes a five-storey podium and four levels of underground parking. It has been designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
“The 185 Enfield Place development will help address the need for rental housing in the Mississauga City Centre and appeal to urban lifestyle preferences,” says Adam Schneiderman, vice president of development at GWLRA. “Given the area’s low vacancy rates and the site’s proximity to shopping at Square One, Sheridan College, City Hall and an array of great restaurants, transit, community services and parks, we believe this purpose-built rental project is the right development at the right time.”
Bird will provide construction management services on the project.
The company also announced that it has been selected to provide construction services for the Louvre Residence at Century Park Project in Edmonton. That contract is worth approximately $57 million.
"These two projects will add a combined $164 million to backlog in the second quarter of Bird's 100th year of operations in Canada," said Bird president and CEO Teri McKibbon. "These projects are both great examples of Bird's discipline in contracting projects that are geographically diverse and balanced in terms of their risk profile."
Construction on both projects is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2020.
