Ehren Cory named infrastructure bank CEO
It didn’t take long for former Infrastructure Ontario CEO Ehren Cory to find a new role.
On October 29, the board of directors of the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) announced that Cory had been named the organization’s new chief executive officer.
This appointment, said a statement from the bank, is the latest in a series of steps to move the CIB forward with a strong foundation to take action and deliver results.
"Over the last six months, the CIB has made significant progress. We launched the $10 billion Growth Plan and began its execution with a $400-million investment to expand agricultural irrigation in Alberta,” said CIB chair Michael Sabia. “Our board can now act with greater agility in assessing and deciding on investment opportunities going forward. And today, we are announcing the appointment of a new chief executive officer, Ehren Cory, to take the CIB forward. We have every confidence that he has the leadership skills and the infrastructure expertise needed to build the CIB and to deliver new investments.”
Cory joined Infrastructure Ontario in February 2017 and acted as CEO for three years. He announced his intent to leave the provincial organization last winter with a departure date of the end of April. He agreed to extend his stay through the end of October to help guide the organization through the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. His last day at Infrastructure Ontario was October 31.
The Ontario government announced in September that it would replace Cory with Infrastructure Ontario president of project delivery Michael Lindsay. Lindsay assumed that role on November 1.
Cory assumes the role of CIB CEO on November 9.
"I am honoured to be the chief executive officer of the Canada Infrastructure Bank,” said Cory. “I am convinced the CIB can be a vital catalyst for innovative investment in Canada. I look forward to working with the talented CIB team and our partners to accelerate projects that create economic and environmental benefits for Canada.”
One of Cory’s initial priorities will be to implement the CIB’s $10-billion growth plan. The plan prioritizes opportunities to invest in clean power such as electricity transmission, broadband in underserved communities, green infrastructure with focus on building energy retrofits, agricultural infrastructure including irrigation, and transit with a focus on zero-emission buses. It is expected to create 60,000 jobs.
