Lafarge introduces ECOPact concrete line
Lafarge announced on November 6 that it has introduced its new ECOPact product line in Canada.
The product is Canada’s first carbon-dioxide reduced concrete brand, and, says the company, an essential component of its strategy to advance the transition towards low-carbon and circular construction.
"ECOPact represents an important step and redefines our approach to minimizing greenhouse gas emissions,” said David Redfern, president & CEO of Lafarge Eastern Canada. “When people choose ECOPact, they reduce the carbon footprint of a cubic metre of concrete by a minimum of 30 percent and it can be certified, empowering owners, municipalities and specifiers with the ability to include the impact on climate as a criterion in their procurement process."
ECOPact is available in a range of low-carbon levels, from 30 percent to 70 percent less carbon emissions compared to standard concrete. Later iterations of the product will allow for reductions in carbon emissions of up to 100 percent compared to standard concrete. Where regulatory conditions allow, ECOPact products integrate upcycled construction and demolition materials, further closing the resource loop.
Lafarge sells approximately 15 million cubic metres of read-mix concrete across North America every year. Its parent company, LafargeHolcim already counts one-third of its net sales in sustainable solutions, The company dedicates 50 percent of its innovation resources to low carbon solutions, and 40 percent of its patents are already in this area.
