Province opens Cooksville GO Station
The Cooksville GO Station is officially open.
The province threw open the doors to the $128-million facility on November 10. Now that it’s open, the building will be a key transit hub and a base to travel across Peel, Halton and Toronto that will provide customers with easier access to GO Transit, Mississauga's MiWay Transit and the future Hurontario LRT.
Construction on the station began in November 2017 and was led by a public-private partnership team that included EllisDon. Work wrapped up on the facility in early September.
"By building a modern, regional transportation network, we are enabling people to travel seamlessly throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe to get to work, visit family or to go shopping," said Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney.
The station features a redeveloped and modern building with upgraded pedestrian tunnels to rail platforms, eight new bus bays for GO and MiWay service, and a large glass east pavilion that not only acts as an indoor waiting area, but also provides a clear view of the new passenger pick-up and drop-off area. The station also includes an integrated six-level parking structure that adds more than 750 new parking spaces.
"This new station will become a critical transit hub for our city, helping move our residents around the GTA quickly and efficiently, while also supporting our efforts to build complete communities and grow our economy," said Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie.
