Applications open for WSIB small business leader awards
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is now accepting applications for its 2020 Small Business Health and Safety Leadership Awards.
Presented annually, the awards recognize those Ontario businesses with fewer than 50 employees for their work keeping their employees and customers safe over the past year. The awards are particularly significant this year, given the impact of—and the changes brought about by—the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We know that many small business owners work hard to keep the people who work for them healthy and safe,” says a statement on the WSIB’s website. "It goes without saying that the COVID-19 pandemic this year has changed the landscape for so many small businesses in Ontario. As the province re-opens, we are shining a light on small business leaders who showed resilience through the pandemic, and made their workplaces healthier and safer."
The top three businesses will receive a monetary prize, $5,000 (gold), $3,000 (silver), $2,000 (bronze), and recognition at a ceremony in November. The first-place winner will also be featured in a promotional video on the WSIB website.
Previous winners include Hawkins Contracting Services Limited, a civil landscaping firm out of Stouffville, Clearview Window Cleaning from Thunder Bay, and Double AA Metal Roofing Inc. from Belle River. Waterloo’s SG Cunningham won top honours in 2018.
Applications can be submitted through the WSIB website, and submissions are due on or before October 5.
