Contract awarded for Windsor catholic HS
The provincial government has given the green light to the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board award a contract to build its new Catholic Central High School.
The decision was announced during an April 22 a Zoom call with Education Minister Stephen Lecce, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls, and school board officials.
The $26.7-million contract to build the facility was awarded to Oscar Construction Company Limited. The firm was one of five prequalified to bid on the work, having already built several elementary and high schools for the board.
“Oscar has a proven track record of quality construction projects for our Board and we’re confident that they will build a wonderful new school for our students, our staff and our Catholic Central community,” said Terry Lyons, Director of Education.
Bernie Mastromattei, the trustee for the ward in which the new school will be built, said he was thrilled with the selection.
“Our community has been eagerly waiting for this announcement, so this is wonderful news,” he said. “We are very excited about seeing shovels in the ground and construction getting started on this project.”
Oscar will work with +VG Architects, which was hired by the board in January 2020, and has extensive experience designing innovative schools throughout Ontario.
The new school will be built on an 11-acre piece of property between Ouellette Avenue and McDougall, less than one kilometre south of its present location on Tecumseh Road East. Construction is expected to begin as soon as possible.
The board anticipates opening the school for the 2022–23 school year.
