Tender for Kincardine hospital addition released
South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) has been given the green light from the provincial Ministry of Health to release a tender for the construction of a 2,000-square foot addition to the Kincardine hospital to house a new CT scanner.
The construction tender was publicly released on December 22. A formal announcement regarding the Kincardine CT project from SBGHC, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is expected in the coming weeks.
Funding for this project is being provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and the Government of Ontario, as well as a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power.
“As part of our government’s work to end hallway health care, we are ensuring that Ontarians have access to high-quality diagnostic imaging services closer to home,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott. “By bringing CT scans to Kincardine, more patients and their families will be able to receive the care they need without having to travel.”
The addition will be located directly south of the main entrance, adjacent to the east side the existing hospital building, and will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom and stretcher holding area. The purchase order for the Siemens Edge Plus CT scanner was issued in April, and the equipment is expected to arrive as soon as the addition is ready to receive it.
“With the public release of the tender, we are now very close to getting construction of the new CT Suite addition underway” explained Michael Barrett, SBGHC President & CEO. “As soon as we get the CT installed, patients from the Kincardine community will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services. We are looking forward to sharing more details about the construction in the near future.”
