Waterfront Toronto shortlists four for Quayside project
Waterfront Toronto has shortlisted four teams to respond to a request for proposals for work on the Quayside Development Opportunity.
The entity announced the shortlisted teams on July 21. They include Hines Canada Management II ULC, which is a partnership of Hines Canada and Tridel Builders Inc. with design support from Fosters + Partners; KMT Quayside Developments Inc. which includes partners Kilmer, Mattamy and Tricon with lead architects MVRDV and Cobe; Quayside Impact LP, which includes Dream Unlimited Corp. and Great Gulf, as well as designers Adjaye Associates, Alison Brooks Architects and Henning Larsen; and The Daniels Corporation and Hullmark Developments Ltd., which also includes design support from Diamond Schmitt Architects Inc.
Waterfront Toronto received 10 submissions for the request for qualifications for the project back in March. It anticipates naming the preferred proponent by the end of this year.
“The people of Toronto have told us that they want to see a bold vision realized on the waterfront that reflects the confident, welcoming, and imaginative civic spirit of our city,” said Stephen Diamond, Chair of the Board for Waterfront Toronto at the time of the release of the RFQ. “We are looking for leaders in the development field that will share our ambition to create a place that fuses Quayside to the water, and provides more beauty, utility, and originality than previously imagined. We want Quayside to be timeless, adaptive, and to propel us into our rightful place among the great waterfronts of the world.”
The Quayside Development Opportunity is a 12-acre area located at the foot of Parliament Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East in Toronto. It includes eight acres of developable land across five development blocks, and is one of the last undeveloped expanses of land steps from Toronto’s downtown.
