Stantec awarded design work for three healthcare projects
Designers Stantec announced on May 27 that the firm has been awarded contracts for services on three significant healthcare projects in Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
The Ontario project will see the firm provide a host of services for the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority. The firm will provide lead design of a new hospital to replace the existing Weeneebayko General Hospital on Moose Factory Island.
The new building will include inpatient beds in private rooms, an expanded 24/7 emergency department, modern surgical suites, dialysis treatments and diagnostic imaging, and expanded mental health and addictions programming. The hospital campus will also include a new lodge, allowing local Elders to remain in the community while receiving care.
The existing hospital on Moose Factory Island will be redeveloped as a new healthcare centre to continue delivering services to patients on the island, including emergency health services, access to primary health care, diagnostic imaging capabilities, physiotherapy treatments, and increased health promotion.
In Saskatchewan, Stantec will provide technical advisory work and lead the design of the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital expansion and renewal. The $300-million project includes a new acute care tower, the replacement of the existing mental health space and renovations to the current facility. The completed project will expand the hospital’s bed count by 40 percent and leave room for even further expansion.
Finally, Stantec will work with Graham Construction to provide design and construction services for the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project in Williams Lake. The $217-million expansion will be delivered via a progressive design-build model. New clinical and support spaces will include an emergency department, medical/surgical inpatient units, maternal care and women’s health, and pharmacy services.
“Expanding access to care services is a top priority for hospitals and health systems nationwide and we are proud to support these initiatives,” said Tariq Amlani, senior principal and health sector leader for Canada at Stantec. “Our integrated team is focused on designing to optimize clinical workflow while improving patient and care team experiences.”
The project announcements build on an already-impressive list of healthcare sector works underway or completed by the company. Otherwise include Cambridge Memorial Hospital’s new patient care wing, Brockville General Hospital’s Phase II Redevelopment Project, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Phase 1C, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, and Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project Phase 1 Redevelopment.
The firm’s health team is also working at the new Calgary Cancer Centre in southern Alberta, the new two-million-square-foot St. Paul’s Hospital in British Columbia, and providing planning, design and compliance services for the new South Niagara Hospital in Ontario.
