WCA launches career portal
The Windsor Construction Association (WCA) has become the first local construction association in Ontario to launch a career portal. The Board of Directors were strong supporters of the concept as many local firms are struggling to find new hires to fulfill their employment needs.
“It’s a combination of record work volumes and demographics that are challenging most employers in the region to hire both skilled trades and apprentices” says WCA executive director Jim Lyons. “To assist our members, we are hopeful that by providing the new Career Portal and advertising the needs of local employers we can deliver more labour resources directly to our members.”
The association made the announcement on September 1, and has invited members to help fill the website with any career openings they may have.
There’s no cost to members of the WCA or the Heavy Construction Association of Windsor to post jobs to the board, and non-members may post resumes and apply for positions. The feed will also tie to such major careers sites as Indeed and the Workforce WindsorEssex job board to attract even more candidates.
Lyons announced in an email to members that the association has an extensive outreach campaign planned to promote the site. WCA will make significant media buys with PostMedia, as well as in such local media as the Windsor Star and the Windsor Star Review, on social media, and through online channels such as Spotify.
