Granite REIT, JLL launch construction of industrial centre in Brantford
Two developers have launched the construction of a 1.7-million square foot business park in Brantford.
Granite REIT and leasing partner JLL Canada announce the start of construction of the Granite Telephone City Logistics Centre on August 15.
The first phase of the development will include a 409,000-square foot building that has been pre-leased to Swiss chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut. Valued at more than $100 million, the company’s factory will occupy nearly one quarter of the industrial park’s total area and create approximately 200 jobs in Brantford. The investment is the Swiss company’s largest in North America.
“Brantford is pleased to welcome Barry Callebaut to our community,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “City staff worked diligently to bring this new investment to our city and will continue to assist Barry Callebaut in establishing its presence in Brantford. We very much look forward to Barry Callebaut joining our expanding list of food manufacturing facilities.”
Granite Telephone City Logistics Centre is also targeting a Two Green Globes rating, demonstrating a significant achievement in resource efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and improving occupant wellness.
“Brantford’s availability rate is extremely low at 0.95% as of Q2 2022, which means there is limited space for businesses to expand,” said Mitchell Blaine, Executive Vice President, Sales & Leasing, JLL Canada. “We are committed to helping companies grow in this desirable market, accessing a strong local labour pool, solidifying the Greater Golden Horseshoe area as a top destination for manufacturing and distribution.”
The Granite Telephone City Logistics Centre is currently under development, with the first phase expected to be delivered in early 2024
The site connects directly to Highway 401 immediately to the west and the Queen Elizabeth Way to the east by Highway 403.
