IO, CHEO issue RFQ for 1Door4Care project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) has kicked off the first phase of procurement for a major hospital project in Ottawa.
IO and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) announced on March 16 that they have issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to design, build and finance the CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre – 1Door4Care project.
The Request for Qualifications is the first step in the process to select a team to help deliver the project. Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist teams with the design and construction experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Shortlisted teams will then be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP), which is expected to be published in fall 2022.
The CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre – 1Door4Care will merge seven care locations, currently leased and spread across Ottawa, into a single, state-of-the-art, purpose-built site on CHEO’s main Smyth Road campus.
The new site will include multi-use clinic space, a physiotherapy rehab gym, expanded mental health clinics, indoor and outdoor space where teachers and therapists combine education and therapy, secure space for children who have been abused, modern treatment rooms for kids with behavioural needs, advanced technology to enable virtual care, a physical link to the main building on campus, family support spaces, a new parking structure, and more.
The hub next to the main campus building will include expanded mental health clinics, autism services, rehabilitation services including occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language pathology and social work, respite services for children and youth with autism, the blind-low vision program, seating and mobility services, and space for community organizations to provide additional support to kids and families.
IO’s January 2022 P3 Market Update document values the CHEO project at between $200 million and $500 million, with contract execution scheduled to begin in 2023.
