Metrolinx issues business case for Beamsville GO station
Metrolinx has designs on building a GO Station in Beamsville.
The transit agency announced recently that it has completed an initial business case for the station in partnership with the Niagara Region, the Town of Lincoln, and Infrastructure Ontario.
The proposed station would be located along the Lakeshore West Line, west of Ontario Street in Beamsville, in the Town of Lincoln. It would be located between the proposed Grimsby GO station to the west and the existing St. Catharines GO Station to the east.
The business case suggests the station could attract 48,000 net new annual trips to the GO network by 2041, and improve access to businesses, housing, jobs, and destinations in and around the Town of Lincoln. On a typical weekday, the proposed station is expected to attract 1,335 daily trips in 2041.
The expansion of GO service in Niagara has been a long-held political goal for regional and municipal officials, with Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls already being identified as first priority stops.
"Expanded rail service in our region is key to local economic development and smart regional planning as more and more people call Niagara home. A Beamsville GO station would greatly complement the proposed Grimsby station and existing St. Catharines station,” said Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff.
Proposed station amenities could include customer parking, a pick-up and drop-off area, bicycle parking, and an area for transfers to local and regional transit services. The preliminary budget for the project is $60 million.
A timeline for construction is still to be determined through the planning process and any associated project agreements put in place under Metrolinx’s Transit-Oriented Communities program.
