Dagmar Construction awarded $62M contract for GO corridor expansion
Metrolinx has awarded a key contract for the Kitchener GO Corridor Expansion project to Mississauga’s Dagmar Construction.
Under the terms of the agreement, the company, which is a subsidiary of Bird Construction, will responsible for railway track, signal, and station works related to the project.
This work is the first step, in a series of infrastructure upgrades planned as part of the Kitchener GO expansion program, which will transform the line and bring increased two-way all-day service and better connectivity to the larger GO Transit network.
The Dagmar contract is valued at $62 million.
"We are proud to be selected to support the delivery of this important infrastructure project for Metrolinx,” said Bird President and CEO Teri McKibbon. “Dagmar's execution experience for specialized projects, including a sizeable portfolio of past projects with this client, creates a significant long-term opportunity to benefit from the pipeline of rail projects in Ontario, the largest civil infrastructure market in Canada.”
The Kitchener GO expansion will add more trips at every point along the line – from Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Halton Hills, Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto, including new stations.
Two-way, all-day service to Kitchener requires a host of new infrastructure between Kitchener GO and Bramalea. Significant steps are underway to make the changes needed so the corridor can accommodate two-way, all-day service.
A preliminary design business case supporting the expansion project, and which was released in March 2021, looks at the route’s the preferred alignment and minimal infrastructure approach.
It also evaluates two options to address a key operational constraint at Silver Junction under the same two-way all-day service concept.
Dagmar is an 80-year old company with extensive experience across key civil infrastructure sub-sectors including rail, road, bridge, sewer and water, and select commercial-institutional sites.
