Grimsby plans wastewater upgrades with infrastructure grant
The Town of Grimsby is pushing forward with a project to upgrade its wastewater infrastructure, thanks to grant money from the provincial and federal governments.
The town was awarded a grant of $1.9 million back in April through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - Green Stream program. It will use the money to replace watermains, service pipes and fire hydrants on Main Street and Elm Street.
The design phase of the program will start next year; construction is scheduled to begin in 2024.
“We would like to thank our provincial and federal partners, including MPP Oosterhoff and MP Alison, for their continued advocacy of Grimsby’s application,” said Mayor Jeff Jordan. “This work will help ensure Grimsby residents have access to clean and safe drinking water for decades to come.”
The watermain work is part of the town’s Downtown Reimagined project – a local vision for how Main Street can support the businesses, residents and visitors.
“Now’s the time to plan for streetscape improvements in time for the downtown water main replacement,” said Jordan at the time of the project launch in September 2021. “We’re excited to deliver this revitalization project to the community and shape the downtown core for years to come.”
