MOL announces construction-sector blitz plans
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has shared its plans for safety-awareness and enforcement campaigns in the construction sector for its 2023–2024 year.
Beginning on April 1, over 100 inspectors will visit hundreds of job sites across the province each week.
This year’s campaigns will focus on falls from heights in single-family residential, and struck-by vehicles, equipment and material.
The falls from heights in single-family residential campaign runs until March 31, 2024 and will be supported by education, outreach and awareness efforts from the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association.
The struck-by equipment campaign also runs until March 31, 2024, in the following sectors: single family residential, multi-family residential, industrial, commercial, and road/sewer/water.
It will also include education, outreach and awareness efforts from the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association.
Meanwhile, the ministry also announced that Steve Chaplin, Vice President of Health, Safety and Environment at EllisDon has been named Chair of the Prevention Council of Ontario.
The council, which includes representatives from employers, trade unions and labour organizations, non-unionized workers, health and safety experts and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, advises the Minister and Chief Prevention Officer on a wide range of health and safety issues.
