Alectra announces plans to upgrade Guelph grid
Alectra Utilities plans to build out its power grid in the City of Guelph.
The company announced on July 27 that it will invest $4.3 million in its regional infrastructure to meet the growing need for reliable electricity.
With parts of Guelph’s system reaching the end of its life cycle, renewing the deteriorating infrastructure is necessary to maintain reliability. This series of infrastructure upgrades will stabilize the existing system and reduce outage impacts in the community.
In 2023, Alectra plans to continue to invest in capital renewal projects across Guelph, including: $2.6 million to replace underground assets including switchgear and vault cover renewal and $1.7 million to renew overhead assets including poles and transformers.
In 2022, Alectra invested approximately $500,000 to construct a new feeder line and renew switchgear equipment, increasing and improving the electricity service for homes and businesses across Guelph.
