Northern Ontario business receives federal expansion funding
The federal government has issued $442,000 in funding to an Indigenous-owned and led construction company based in Batchewana First Nation, Rankin Reserve.
Trucor Steel Structures Inc. will use the funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor) to buy an excavator, a front end loader, a skid steer, and a mini excavator.
It will also use the funding to create ten full-time jobs.
“This support from FedNor is going to help us expand our services, which will help Trucor Steel grow, but it is also going to help us meet the needs of Indigenous communities and Northern Ontario,” said President and CEO Kenneth Daigle. “We are proud to partner with the Government of Canada in creating opportunities in the region, and we will keep working at building up our communities.”
Trucor specializes in manufacturing housing and commercial and industrial building solutions for First Nations communities. It provides permanent structures as well as temporary and/or emergency structures that can be customized for specific locations and needs.
The federal funds are being provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, through which FedNor invests in projects led by municipalities, First Nations, and other organizations and institutions that support community economic development, diversification, job creation and self-reliant communities in Northern Ontario.
