EllisDon consortium awarded $3.6-billion South Niagara Hospital contract
Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health have awarded a $3.6-billion fixed-price contract to design, build, finance and maintain the new South Niagara Hospital project to EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH).
The EDIH team is led by EllisDon Capital and Plenary Americas LP, with design support from Parkin Architects Ltd. & Adamson Associates Architects.
The new South Niagara Hospital will be located at the intersection of Biggar Road and Montrose Road in Niagara Falls, just off the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW).
The facility will be a full acute-care hospital that will include: an emergency department, diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services; as well as medical, surgical and intensive care inpatient beds; ambulatory services as well as post-acute complex continuing care inpatient services; and centres of excellence specializing in stroke, complex care, and wellness in aging.
The project will centralize services from existing facilities, making it easier for residents to access the care they need at one location, provide an overall better experience, and enable communities to be healthier.
The site is also being planned with a seniors’ focus embedded into all aspects of the patient experience.
The facility will be designed and built to meet LEED Silver standards. The project is also working toward being the first WELL-certified healthcare facility in Canada focused on the health and well-being of staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, families and caregivers and the Niagara community.
Design and development work on the project will continue this month, with EDIH mobilizing on site. Construction is expected to begin in July 2023, and end in early 2028.
