Italian pasta manufacturer to build facility in London
The London Economic Development Corporation has announced that a major Italian food processor has chosen to build a manufacturing facility in town.
Andriani S.p.A chose London to build its first North American production facility. The company plans to build a 50,000-square foot, allergen-free and gluten-free pasta manufacturing facility on five acres of land in London’s Innovation Park located at Bradley Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Construction is expected to start this year with the plant up and running in 2024. It is expected to employ 50 people in the initial phase and procure raw materials from Southwestern Ontario.
A certified B-Corp, Andriani works closely with regional farms to develop non-GMO supply chains of brown rice, corn, quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth, lentils, peas and many more.
“This is a huge win for London, and our ever-expanding agri-food industry. The fact that Andriani has chosen our city as the future home of its first ever facility in North America is a testament to our industrial land strategy, and just the latest example of our increasingly diverse economy,” said Josh Morgan, Mayor, City of London. “I look forward to watching Andriani grow its business in London for years to come.”
The firm produces more than 40,000 tonnes of allergen and gluten free pasta per year for more than 30 countries, including Italy, United States of America, Canada, France, United Kingdom and Spain.
“Andriani is a fantastic addition to London’s agri-food cluster that already has more than 90 companies employing close to 10,000 people, with a growing specialty in health food products” said Kapil Lakhotia, President & CEO, London Economic Development Corporation. “We are delighted to attract jobs and investment from such a reputable European Company.”
London’s food sector also includes Cargill, a Maple Leaf Foods poultry processing plant, Cardiff Products, Odd Burger and several other major manufacturers.
