Wasaga Beach gets funding, approval to build new elementary school
The Town of Wasaga Beach is moving forward with construction of a new elementary school.
The town announced last month that the Ontario government has provided the Simcoe County District School Board with $22.5 million in funding approval to award the tender to build thew new facility.
The town is investing over $2.5 million into the project, which aims to create an innovative and modern learning environment with an additional 4,800 square feet of community use space.
Identified as a capital priority by the Simcoe District School Board in 2018, the long awaited Wasaga Beach Public School will be located at 42 Union Boulevard and will provide 406 elementary spaces for local families.
“Wasaga Beach continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario. The town is proud to partner with the Ontario government and Simcoe County District School Board to build this state-of-the art school and multi-use facility that will serve as a much-needed school and community resource,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “Our elementary schools are busting at the seams and this new school is going to help immensely.”
Construction on the school is expected to begin in July, with work scheduled for completion by September 2024.
