Major work completed at Milliken, Agincourt GO stations
The Ontario government has announced the completion of major infrastructure works at the Milliken and Agincourt GO stations along the Stouffville line. The work is part of the province’s plan to deliver more trips, more often across the GO network.
"These major infrastructure improvements will increase safety and accessibility for customers while supporting future two-way, all-day, 15-minute train service between Toronto and Markham," said Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria.
Enhancements at Milliken GO Station include an additional track and platform, two new pedestrian tunnels, and additional vehicle and cycling lanes on Steeles Avenue.
Work at Agincourt GO station includes a new station building with modern facilities, as well as additional platforms and pedestrian tunnels.
The work at both stations is part of a commitment by the province to spend more than $70 billion on new and improved public transit over the next 10 years.
"Upgrades along the Stouffville Line will ensure the necessary transit infrastructure is in place to support our growing population while delivering safer, faster, and more convenient travel options for commuters," said Todd McCarthy, Associate Minister of Transportation.
As part of the larger GO Expansion program, improvements at the Milliken and Agincourt GO stations will build capacity on the Stouffville line to meet future ridership demand and support two-way, all-day GO train service, every 15 minutes between Unionville GO Station and Union Station.
Once future two-day, all-day service is implemented, as many as 19 train trips will be added along the Stouffville Line.
By 2031, the province plans introduce two-way, all-day GO train service, every 15 minutes between Unionville GO Station and Union Station with up to 2,000 GO train trips per week on the Stouffville Line, compared with the current level of 164 per week.
GO rail is expected to become one of the busiest railways in North America with more than 200 million annual riders expected by 2055.
