MoL launches survey on foreign credential recognition
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is launching a survey on foreign credential recognition in an effort to better understand the challenges newcomers face when pursuing licences in Ontario.
Although around 300,000 jobs are currently going unfilled in the province each day, including thousands in construction, studies show that just one in four internationally trained immigrants in Ontario work in the regulated professions and skilled trades they trained for.
In construction alone, the province will need more than 100,000 new workers over the next decade due to retirements and job growth.
Through the survey, industry professionals, immigrants and stakeholders will be asked to share their first-hand experiences with credential recognition in Ontario’s regulated professions and trades.
The province says the feedback will help address barriers and identify opportunities for improvement to help newcomers and licensed professionals from other provinces and territories find meaningful employment.
The survey can be completed online, and is open until September 18.
