NOCA again offers bursaries for women in the trades
The Northeastern Ontario Construction Association’s Women in Construction Committee is once again offering scholarships for women pursuing a career in the trades.
The group is offering four bursaries worth $2,000 each for women who are enrolled or who are planning to enrol in a trades program, who are Northern Ontario residents, and who are aged 18 or older.
Committee chair Joan Strawn says the group has made several changes to its acceptance criteria for this year. Key among these is the fact that applicants will not be required to submit proof of enrolment in a trades program at time of submission.
The committee hopes the change will make the scholarship more accessible to people enrolling in trade schools that do not follow the traditional September – May calendar.
“Our committee works hard all year to raise funds for our annual scholarship program, and we are proud to be awarding $8,000 in scholarships to fellow hard-working women who are pursuing careers in the trades,” says Strawn. “Our committee shares the same passion as the women who are trailblazing a role in the trades do.”
She adds that the committee was able to offer more scholarships this year thanks to sponsorships from Anmar and NORCAT.
The deadline to apply to the program is September 12.
