Hamilton’s Juravinski Hospital receives $10M boost from province
The Ontario government has announced an investment of $10 million to support the redevelopment of Hamilton Health Sciences’ Juravinski Hospital.
The commitment builds on the $7.5 million the government has previously invested in Hamilton Health Sciences to further support the redevelopment of Juravinski Hospital, making it the single-largest health infrastructure project in Hamilton Health Sciences’ history.
Through the redevelopment, Juravinski Hospital will become the largest inpatient hospital facility in south central Ontario, with more than 500 inpatient beds. Redevelopment work includes: a new patient care tower that will add over 100 new inpatient beds in single-patient rooms to the facility; renovated and expanded infrastructure to support a planned increase in outpatient care and support programs such as general and orthopedic surgery, adult cancer, intensive care, and general medicine; and modernized facilities including the emergency department.
"The Juravinski Hospital redevelopment will bring the hospital’s nearly 100-year-old spaces into the 21st century,” said Tracey MacArthur, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hamilton Health Sciences. “Our patients and teams expect and deserve nothing less than access to modern, accessible health care facilities to support world-class care. We are grateful for the provincial government’s ongoing partnership and investment in this vital community health project."
Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre is a vital acute hospital facility providing urgent and emergency care, critical care, general medicine and specialty surgical programs, including orthopedics and adult cancer care to Hamilton and its surrounding communities.
The Ontario government is investing more than $228 million this year to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities across the province.
In the Hamilton region, the government is also getting shovels in the ground for hospital projects including the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton psychiatric emergency service redevelopment, Hamilton General Hospital’s emergency department expansion, and the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital redevelopment.
